Awards and Acknowledgements
  • Congratulations to Dr. Brooke Everette who successfully defended her dissertation, "No Place Like Home: Exploring the Adjustment Experiences of Black Graduates of Historically Black Colleges or Universities who Attend Graduate School at a Predominately White Institution," in December and earned her doctorate from the University of North Texas.
  • Congratulations to Angela Marin on being selected for the NCAA Division III Management Council, which handles the implementation of policies adopted in NCAA D III. She will serve on the council until January 2025.
  • Pam McElrath was elected to serve in the Association of Collegiate Conference and Event Directors-International for the next three years as regional director-elect, regional director and immediate past regional director.
Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Colleagues, welcome back and happy new year! Last year was full of change and challenges. I'm proud of the way our division adapted while still offering our students opportunities for engagement and community connection. I remain hopeful that the coming year allows us to reconnect on campus and the chance to forge new paths in student affairs.
  • Dr. Brooke Everette has agreed to provide oversight for the division's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts. Dr. Everette will be temporarily relieved of her duties and responsibilities as director of the Office of Community Standards and Conduct so she can focus 100 percent of her time to this important endeavor. She will become a member of the division's leadership team and report directly to the VPSA.

Counseling Center

  • CSR spring support groups begin January 25, including Bullet Journaling, Mondays, 10 a.m.; Nourish, Mondays, 12 p.m.; All Recovery Meeting, Tuesdays, 11 a.m.; Recovery Book Club, Wednesdays, 3 p.m.; and Morning Mindfulness, Thursdays, 10 a.m. All support groups are hosted via Microsoft Teams. Health Center

  • The center is still offering the flu vaccine on a limited basis. Students should all the clinic to schedule for the next available appointment.

Intercultural Programs

  • iFriend registration is now open. iFriend is a cultural exchange program where students make friends and learn how to interact with someone from another culture. International and American students are paired or grouped and take part in cultural activities and training events.
  • Jan. 20: Learn UTD-specific terminology, higher education terms and academic vocabulary that will help international students excel, 12 p.m., Instagram.
  • Jan. 21: Virtual tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 1 p.m., Instagram.

Student Development

  • Looking for ways to engage your students in leadership development? Contact Jeremiah Stinnett to create a virtual training.
  • Students interested in virtual leadership development opportunities, including Strengths Quest, Student Leadership Challenge, Leaders Meet, Student Leadership Awards or Virtual Leadership Development presentations, should sign up to receive Student Leadership Program updates.

  • Save the date: Homecoming is Feb. 10-13.
  • Students, faculty and staff are invited to sign up by Jan. 29 for the Homecoming Door Decorating Contest.

Student Union

  • Spring 2021 building hours for the SU/SSB/SSA are: 7 a.m.-10 p.m. M-F, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (SU/SSB; SSA closed). All facilities are closed on Sundays.
