• In the wake of the shootings in Atlanta that left six Asian women and two others dead, and the rise in crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, I want to state again that violence and racism have no place in our country or in our University community. I'm deeply troubled by the increased attacks and hate against AAPIs, which we've all heard about on the news. As Comets, I encourage you and your community to avoid blaming AAPIs as being responsible for COVID-19. It's simply not true. I remind you to stay alert and aware. Don't ignore racism because it's uncomfortable; call it out when you see it and denounce it in all forms. If you become aware of an incident involving either students or staff, please reach out to the appropriate campus resource, including the Dean of Students Office, the Title IX Office, Human Resources, the University Police or your direct supervisor.

• The Student Affairs Council on Diversity and Inclusion was established to review and advocate for diversity, create and promote division-wide training and provide DEI resources. Among other things, the council will develop a multi-year plan for DEI initiatives for the division; develop education and training programs for division staff; serve as a resource for division departments; and assist in the promotion and development of division staff climate assessment(s).
